Umhlanga offers some surprising diving, from wrecks teeming with fish, to rocky reef formations that take you through interesting canyons, to patch reef over sparkling white sand. Marine life is far from lacking with an abundance of invertebrates and crustaceans, reef fishes that abound, and the chance encounter with an apex predator in the form of the Zambezi shark. Few divers will find this diving disappointing. With wave action often hampering shore-side snorkeling, the snorkeling beyond the breakers often provides better visibility and the opportunity of seeing marine creatures which prefer calmer waters. Chance encounters with dolphins may make many a dream come true, and are regularly seen on snorkeling tours. Take the family or friends out on a fun boat ride to enjoy the rolling swells, the view of Umhlanga and Durban from out at sea, or a pleasure cruise around the Harbour. Spend more time on the reefs, rather than swimming out and back to shore. Have surface support for your catch.
